True, however, women’s value is often reduced to her attractiveness, whereas men’s value is tied with what he does. For example, Barbie is a fashion doll. He-Man is a protagonist with tons of adventures, and even the dolls are considered “action figures” because they DO something. One is passive, one is dynamic. Also, one’s strength is their value to others. The other’s strength is actual strength.  Both are designed for the male gaze.

Ultimately, we're really not as great as we think we are, with stats pulled from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
If that wasn't enough evidence for you, how about the fact that women's (especially marginalized) programs are usually the first ones to have their funding cut? Oh, and the Simpson-Bowles recommendations are basically that people should pay more out of pocket for their own health care and retirement.

"From hair products to laundry detergents to diapers, we live in a world of fragrance that might be making us sick, suggests a new study, even when those scents come from products that claim to be natural and pure.

In an analysis of 25 of the most commonly used scented products -- including ones labeled "organic," "natural" or "non-toxic" -- scientists identified at least 133 chemicals wafting off of them. A quarter of those chemicals were classified as hazardous or toxic. Virtually none were listed on product labels."
Unfortunately, this comes as no surprise. This is why I always read the labels of even the organic products I buy.

Hannity also accuses Obama of having watched too much tv as a kid. Um, Hannity? Pot and kettle, considering you referenced the freakin' 80's commercial. Judging one's condiment choices? Reaching for straws here, boys and girls. Besides, how "elitist" can a Kraft (which is an American company, by the way) product be?

Burger King Commercial-Old is Bad

Driving to work, listening to NPR when this Burger King commercial comes on. There's an older gentleman talking about his life and when people *gasp* actually used to make their own food! Naturally, it's in the much joked about manner of "uphill, both ways, barefoot, through the snow."
Then his alleged grandson interrupts with (highly paraphrased) "Yeah so? I got this greasy, fake little sandwich at BK for a dollar." In other words, don't bore me with how food is actually made and give me something fatty and cheap.
I was ranting about this the other day to Bronn, about how in our culture the old and elderly are not revered and instead we worship the young and dumb. Granted, not all the elderly are necessarily good or wise, but we should not dismiss them out of hand because of grey hair and wrinkles. Stop throwing away your money on "young again" methods, like Botox! Embrace who you are and how you got here, not what you used to look like.
That having been said, part of my extended hiatus has been due to health problems.

That's right. I take it all back. In fact, I hope that they do keep running those commercials. Get those poseurs out of my coffee shops, and into Starbucks and McDonalds where they belong. Let them have the crappy, watered down coffee.
That will leave more yumminess for me.

The new McDonald's coffee ads drove me up a wall. Evidently, if you drink coffee, are well-read, and socially conscious then you're "elitist," which we all know is really a euphemism for intellectual. If you're dumb and love to shop without a care for the impact of your buying choices, then eat at Mickey D's!
