The title of an article on Daily Kos read, "OR-Sen: Maybe Northwesterners Just Count Slowly?"

Unsurprisingly, I take umbrage with such a statement, particularly because machines do the counting. The news (KATU/KATV/whatever local show was on) last night said the issue wasn't necessarily that the ballots were longer. In fact, I distinctly remember mentally comparing the length of this ballot to the first and only one I have ever voted in which was last election. They were the same. The issue was that one of the machines was malfunctioning. Not in the sense of someone was tampering with them, but rather that it had stopped working and all of the ballots that had been fed through that one had to be run again to ensure that they had been counted properly.

Democrat Jeff Merkley did win.
